What this service is Lightning Gifts lets a giver pay a Bitcoin invoice and hand the money on as a gift. The recipient claims it by following a link, scanning a code or entering a set of magic words, and withdraws it to a wallet of their own. This instance is a fork of the open-source Lightsats project. Custody Gifts are custodial: between the moment a giver funds a gift and the moment the recipient withdraws it, this service holds the bitcoin on their behalf, in a wallet dedicated to that gift. We are not a bank and not a regulated custodian. Keep the claim link safe, because anyone who has it can claim the gift. Fees Creating a gift costs a fee of 1% of the gift amount, with a minimum of 100 satoshis. These fees support withdrawals when your recipient claims their gift and help with the cost of this site. The exact figure is shown before you confirm. Eligibility There is no restriction on who may use this service, beyond being old enough to enter into a contract where you live. Accounts and authentication Users can authenticate with a Nostr key, LNURL-Auth or email. You may create more than one account. If you believe an account of yours has been compromised, write to [email protected] immediately. Using the service Givers may send bitcoin gifts, and recipients may withdraw them to a wallet of their own. The service also provides educational material and links to wallets and services in the Bitcoin and Lightning ecosystem; those are third parties with their own terms. Fraud, abuse and spam are not permitted, and accounts used for them may be banned. Bitcoin transactions Once withdrawn, a bitcoin transaction is irreversible. A giver can set an expiry date for a gift: if the recipient does not claim or withdraw before it passes, the gift is reclaimed to the giver's balance, and if the giver has saved a Lightning address on their profile the reclaimed amount is paid out to that address automatically. If the recipient withdraws before the expiry date, there is no refund and no dispute process. Availability and liability The service is provided as it is, without warranty. We do not take responsibility for lost funds, failed transactions, or third-party services used in connection with the service. Changes to these terms These terms may be updated at any time.
